Level 200, Course #225: Zone Control

The two most common methods for zoning of a hydronic system are with the use of pumps and with the use of valves. In this course, we will explore these two methods, along with the pros and cons of each. We’ll provide a brief explanation of what a zone is, and how to approach the critical decision on which areas of a building might be grouped into zones. We will briefly take a look at the multitude of zoning design variations that are available for these two methods, and will look at some of the energy use impacts that result from zoning design choices. Finally, we will review zone control components and their functions.
